Sustainability has been the watchword for a few years now, but things are changing. We are moving deeper into the crisis around global change. There is a growing movement that believes in circularity; the circular economy. This means that there is a rising interest in developing products that do several things:
– They are re-usable many times over,
– They are repairable and re-usable again,
– They are recyclable and can be taken apart and the elements used again in other ways,
– They can be passed on to others who will use them again.
Creating products like these keep the lifecycle of the product out of landfills and garbage dumps. They recycle valuable minerals and other rare parts. Circularity means that creative people are inventing ways to both extend the life of products we need and use and invent new ways to use the salvaged recycled parts.
There are all kinds of stories about business that are doing everything from recycling old solar collectors to build roads to creating new clothes out of old clothes. There is keen interest in composting to create rich, new soil in which to grow food without fertilizers. And we have all seen the abundance of reusable kitchen products and single use plastic replacements like stainless and glass water bottles. The products are expanding as this concept catches on. We are excited to be a part of this Circularity movement!
